Join us for a unique breakfast at the Center for Architecture with Sara Caples, AIA of Caples Jefferson Architects, PC. Ms. Caples will discuss her professional journey in a round table format and address the question “Can a Woman be a Designer?”.
Twenty-five years ago Sara Caples, AIA, founded Caples Jefferson Architects PC with Everardo Jefferson, AIA. Three commitments have remained the firm’s core values:
– Perform at least 50% of our work for the community, for a broader public,
especially in poor neighborhoods underserved by designers.
– Base each project on intensive research to uncover deepened layers
particular to each individual place.
– Look into these multiple layers for fulfilling connections between the
conceptual and the physical that zero in on the unique potential of that
Sara Caples, AIA has won numerous distinctions including AIA national and chapter awards, multiple NOMA national awards for Excellence in Architecture, the New York City Art Commission award, and the Municipal Arts Society MASterworks Award. In 1998, Caples and Jefferson were Emerging Voices of the Architectural League; in 2009, they were honored as New York City’s MWBE of the Year.
Ms. Caples’ design work has been featured in a wide range of publications including Architect, Architectural Record, The Architect’s Newspaper, ArchDaily, Architizer, C3, Competitions, designboom, Detail, Fast Company, Tatlin, and The New York Times. With Everardo Jefferson, she co-edited the New Mix issue of AD in 2005.
Ms. Caples has been Visiting Critic at Syracuse University and at the University of Miami School of Architecture. This spring she is serving as Visiting Distinguished Professor at CCNY for the 3rd time in 4 years.
